MSTRKRFT, the electronic duo from Toronto, have been rocking it all over the world since the release of their second LP Fist of God. They’ve been doing everything from clubs to festivals, and are one of the pioneers of (what I like to call) the electro-crunch movement. So where did these guys come from?
Jesse F. Keeler, from the early 2000’s Metal-Dancepunk band Death from Above 1979, joined forced with Al-P, a producer and close friend of Keeler’s, in 2005. They released their first LP The Looks early in 2006 with tracks like “Easy Love” and “Work on You” that were interesting, powerful and fresh. It is a great album that got them a lot of attention and built anticipation for Fist of God, which came out in March of this year.
Fist of God is definitely a departure from their debut, and has more of a hip-hop influence with guests like Ghostface Killah, E-40, and Freeway. The duo stays true to their aggressive and layered sound, but breaks less barriers than The Looks did.
But MSTRKRFT hasn’t stopped. They have remixed songs from groups like Justice, Metric, Brazilian Girls, Kylie Minogue, Usher, and the list goes on from there. They are currently touring Europe and are hitting the states for several dates including big festivals like All Points West in the greater NYC area and Lollapalooza in Chicago.
MSTRKRFT is definitely building a name for themselves, and is surely going to become a favorite of anybody who enjoys fun, hot dance tunes. Be sure to check out when they’ll be in your area, and don’t miss out.
