About Me/Bio:
|
Always a music enthusiast, Dj Ryan Taylor’s solidified his place in the music world in 1998 when he was giving two turntables and a mixer for his high-school graduation. The time that followed saw Ryan locked in his room practicing his mixes, his scratches and his knowledge of music history. If he wasn’t behind the decks practicing he was out digging for anything with a beat and Michael Jackson 12 inches.
Maybe it was growing up listening to his father’s extensive record collection of rock, folk, jazz, and classical. Maybe it was the years spent playing the saxophone in the school jazz band and a Ska band with friends. Maybe it was the years listening to hip-hop while riding a skateboard and painting freight trains. Maybe it was the time he spent sneaking out to warehouse parties and raves, but Ryan developed an ear for every type of sound he could find.
It is Ryan’s love of all genres of music and his enthusiasm for eclecticism that has set Ryan apart from other Dj’s. He has always strived and continues to keep it fresh and different. Whether it’s House, techno, Punk, Funk, Electronic, trip hop, down-tempo, soul, jazz, reggae, Latin music, Baille Funk, Drum & Bass, Rock and at the foundation of his sound: that thumping unmistakable boom bap that is the Hip Hop. His love of scratching, turntablism and just good old ass shaking defines his technical mash-up party rocking style.
As is usually the route DJ RT started spinning at local house parties, basements, and neighborhood social events but it was leaps and bounds after that. Straight out of high school he had his own night at a local bar where he quickly established himself as the hottest DJ and the club as the hottest joint in town. Before he was legally old enough to drink he was playing at venues across Long Island where he grew up. Soon he was out of state for gigs traveling to Boston during College. After that Ryan was off to South Africa, Chicago, and then back to his roots in New York City. Throughout the years Ryan has laid down the wax at Webster Hall, Sutra, 105 Riv, Level V, M1-5, NY Car Club, CBGBS gallery, Pourch, Star Lounge, Resto Leon, Buhuda Lounge, Center Stage, Tabernacle, various fashion industry parties, private events, gallery openings, weddings and any other place that needs a lesson in getting down.
If you haven’t gotten the idea yet, Ryan Taylor has no intentions of slowing his game. When he’s not in Brooklyn Dj’ing and making beats Ryan is off time traveling across the country. He has performed in Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Chicago, Boston, and Seattle to name a few. Working primarily as Tour manager for a promotional/production company, he also serves as the tours DJ (and art director, set dresser, and more). He has supported numerous signed national and international acts such as Spoon, Chromeo, The Black Keys, Dinosaur Jr. Citizen Cope, Black Rebel Motor Cycle Gang, Flosstrodomis, Steve Aioki, and The Sounds.
Throughout all his experience and time devoted to the arts Ryan has founded Nounz NYC. Nounz is an art collective/event production company Ryan and partner Kenny Rodriguez a fellow DJ/photographer have started in hopes of contributing more than just hot blends or dope beats to the scene. Whether its music, photography, Graffiti, graphic design, fashion or good vibes, Nounz hopes to create multimedia experiences and product while developing and exposing artists from different creative fields to the public. Having produced numerous and continuous events from 2005 through to today, Nounz NYC’s future remains bright. All while Ryan spins the soundtrack of the past, present and future to keep our bodies moving.
