We’re in Miami Bitch! Well, not quite. 1200Dreams arrives in sunny Miami Beach on Sunday, but you know who else is arriving there as you read this, and perhaps already there? A legion of dreamers; DJs, artists, promoters, writers, dancers, all looking to network their way into the spotlite, onto the stage, behind the DJ booth!

Approaching the runway of Miami airport right now, or the still quiet hotels, the relatively calm streets and even calmer and still quite cold but tempting beaches, are the worlds biggest and baddest DJs. Also approaching are the newbies, the nobodies, the wet behind the ears basement/living room/bedroom DJs, the ones the veterans admonish for being more EDM then H.O.U.S.E, the ones who dream of being globe trotting Superstar DJs themselves. For this week, everyone is on level ground, everyone is a superstar DJ, everyone is a dreamer.

No matter what you may think about the Winter Music Conference, that it’s been co-opted, that it’s been over-run by teeny boppers enroute to Ultra, that it is not like it used to be, the bottomline is that it is still a hotbed of talent and connections, it is still a powerful draw, it still presents opportunity. Soak that energy in as much as you will the sun, bathe in the love everyone around you has for this industry, this scene, this thumping music that made this all happen to begin with.

To the purists I say, leave the judgements behind wherever you’re coming from or just cast them aside where you stand, drive them into the ground, where no one else will stumble upon them. And you new jacks, you dreamers, dream and dream big, soak it all in, and learn from your contemporaries as well as the veterans, learn from those in other genres, learn from the bartenders, the promoters, from everyone! And in case you missed it the first time, DREAM BIG!

To all, open your hearts as you will your ears and let the music in. It’s a time to celebrate, learn, and grow, and you very well can’t do that when you allow space for negativity. Now, let’s dance.
