R.I.P George Mena Producer, Remixer, & House Soldier
As much as it pains me to add any more sadness or hurt to todays news regarding the continuing drama in Boston, I simply cannot allow the following piece of news to be overshadowed. George Mena, another one of our House soldiers has passed.
George Mena’s family has not made an official statement, all we know is that the 55 year old producer and engineer extraordinaire passed early this morning.
Mena was an in demand and constantly working producer and engineer having remixed and worked with acts such as Beyonce, Jay Z, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Jellybean Benitez, Destiny’s Child, Wyclef Jean, Barbara Tucker, and many, many more. Before that, he performed as bassist and keyboardist traveling with superstars such as Donna Summer, Grace Jones, The Tramps, Musique, and Billy Paul.
Everyone who worked with Mena was touched by his brilliance, his bighearted nature and sweet disposition, and as his nickname alluded too, his skills with the ivory. In fact, he has been called “the greatest keyboard player in the history of house.” Just listen to his work in the embedded video for a taste of his skills.
To George Mena’s family we send our deepest condolences, know that he was loved and appreciated; he will live on in his music, and will not be forgotten.
