WEEKENDMIX 5.18.12: DONNA SUMMER TRIBUTE

Yesterday, we were all surprised when the news hit that Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco had passed away, loosing her battle with cancer at 63 years old.

If you fashion yourself a DJ or have aspirations to be one, and are not familiar with her body of work, then do yourself a favor and listen to her discography, Google her if you have to but get familiar. You need to know your dance music history and Donna Summer played a major part in that. It will broaden your musical knowledge and reportaire but, also your spirit. She was that great.

If you are just a fan of music and are only familiar with Donna Summer’s music from the occasional movie soundtrack, the same applies to you.

Of course, anyone born before the 80’s or who had older siblings and family members who partied during the 70’s and 80’s are intimately familiar with Donna Summer, and I’m sure if you are one of these people you find yourself a little sad this Friday morning. But, let’s not get all down, she was a happy woman, always with a smile on her face, and what a beautiful face indeed. You can’t help but look at her or listen to her music and not feel happy. So, with that being said, we dedicate this WEEKENDMIX featuring two mixes one by DJ Picks and the other by DJ Blendz to the one and only Donna Summer. May she rest in peace at the ultimate after party in the sky!
