WeekendMix 4.27.12: Mixtapes Are Spiritual Things
Alex Wloch from Rostock, Greifswald Germany claims he is not a DJ, just a guy with many friends that are “MCs and performers.” Well, I did some digging, and I’m pretty sure he is the mastermind behind the following mix and the entire series of mixes titled ‘Mixes Are Spiritual Things’. And let me tell you, the name is very fitting indeed; not only are his mixes ethereal and sublime, but like things of a spiritual nature, they uplift you and fill you up with something you can’t quite put your finger on.
Pick any of Wloch’s mixes and you are instantly drawn into an incredibly rich and diverse collection of music that continuously takes you to new heights. One moment you’re swimming in an obscure electronic track, the next you’re doing the Hustle on clouds to some Nu Disco grooves, and yet the next you’re b-boying to Hip Hop or some awesome 80’s track you haven’t heard since you were a kid sitting in the back of your parents car with no seatbelt on. Wake up! There are still more obscure songs to be enveloped by, more funky drum grooves to rattle your spirit, more rhythms to meld with your own frequencies; mixtapes truly are spiritual things, and whether he is a DJ or not, I have a feeling Wloch will be a great guide.
