DJ OF THE WEEK 5.10.10: BENNY BENASSI
Benny Benassi, even his name sounds musical, is an Italian born DJ known for his pounding Electro vibes, and energetic mix sets. Burning up the dance floors since the 80’s and producing tracks for over a decade, Benassi comes with plenty of cred and plenty of noise. Lots of noise. His remix of Public Enemy’s “Bring the Noise” garnered him a 2008 Grammy for Best Remix. He has also remixed for OutKast, Fischerspooner, Goldfrapp, and Felix da Housecat, and more. His own albums, Hypnotica,, Pumphonia, Phobia, and Rock ‘n’ Rave, have all garnered hits, but the one people remember most is his 2002 hit “Satisfaction” which is most likely in your collection, or at least it had better be. If you missed it the first time though, don’t worry, a new remix is out, and it’s well, banging.
These days you can hear Benassi on Sirius XM Radio’s Area (channel 38) or catch one of his sets live as he travels the world on tour. His next stops include Pacha New York, Fur in Washington, and Liquid Pool in Las Vegas just to name a few. Also look out for his upcoming 2010 project featuring Kelis, apl.de.ap from the Black Eyes Peas, and Jean-Baptiste. Now, sing it with me. Benny Benassi, Benny Benassi, Benny Benassi.
