WEEKEND MIX 5.13.11: DRU TIZ

WEEKEND MIX 5.13.11: DRU TIZ

New York’s Lower East Side is a mix of trendy lounges and bars and dark and dingy holes in the walls. In the midst of all this, there is a DJ that calls the neighborhood home, a DJ that has been helping keep this neighborhoods nitelife pumping since before it was the hipsters enclave that it has become, his name, is Dru-Tiz.

Like the neighborhood, Dru-Tiz has gone through many changes throughout his life and career, but where the neighborhood has softened, Dru has remained hard. No surprise then that he is more likely to be found spinning in a dark and dingy hole in the wall than in the trendy lounges.

Equal parts DJ and witch doctor, Dru-Tiz dances, dips, dives, twitches, and jumps as he spins a concoction of deep and unrelenting House grooves that rattle the walls, cause revelers to expel pounds, sweat, and all but shakes their spirits lose from their bodies. Whether at the Soulgasm parties, the Funkbox, or some non-themed party on some random nite, if Dru-Tiz is behind the tables, you can be sure you are in for an experience.

If you can’t make it or are too scared to visit the L.E.S to hear Dru-Tiz spin, you can catch him online on Handz On Radio every Monday on the Soto and Tiz show (that’s Frank Soto, another one of our favorite local spinsters). We suggest however, that you come and catch him live, there is no need to worry, unless you’re scared of hipsters.

(Original mix removed, but here’s a newer one – proof, Dru Tiz stil has it.)
