WEEKENDMIX 2.7.14: WATER YOUR ROOTS

Bob Marley’s birthday was this week, February 6 to be exact. He would’ve been 69 years old. In case you don’t know, I am a big fan. Like so many of you. So, in honor of him, his message, his love, I wanted to feature a roots reggae mix. Understandable enough, right?

Of course, there will never be another one like Bob Marley; the topics he sung about might be touched on by the new crop of singers, but no one does it with that same poignancy, with the same effect. His inspiration runs deep nonetheless and roots reggae continues to be a genre predominately about love and positivity, and we’ll take that any day, in fact, we need that.

In honor of Bob Marley, we feature the following two mixes. Each is full of sweet roots reggae riddims that we think he would be proud of. The first is newer fair while the second mix takes a look back at some of the best the genre has had to offer since Bob Marley – in fact, you’ll hear him in there as well.
