DJ OF THE WEEK 11.4.13: ED SOLO

I don’t know about you, but I’m already beginning to feel the pull of winters energy sucking affect and I need a pick me up and you know what that means, right? Yep, you guessed it, some high energy tunage and what better than some Drum n’ Bass. And not many do it better than Ed Solo.

Ed Solo’s real name is Ed Bickley and he has been tearing up the DnB scene from his home base in the UK since the 90’s. His first release ‘125th Street’ and ‘The Danger’, co-produced with Dave Stone in 1996 quickly established him as a force to be reckoned with. He’s been that force ever since. Over the two decades Solo has gone on to release more works both in collaboration with some of the biggest names in the DnB scene and as a solo artist than there are drum rolls in one of his DnB productions. Fatboy Slim, T.C Izlam, JFB, Roots Manuva, Deekline, Darrison, DJ Kane, Shy FX, DJ Swift, DJ Trace, Eliabeth Troy, Skool of Thought, just to name a few, Solo has worked with the best of them.

Considering the many years Solo has been in the game, you’d think there would be much more about him online. He is active on Facebook, but Google search results are not as thick as you would like. But that’s ok, in fact, it’s quite fitting actually. It’s not that he hasn’t been an important figure, it’s just that Ed Solo truly is underground. Look at his tour schedule and you’ll note that aside from the many festivals he is always at some underground spot you’ve never heard of holding it down for a loyal fan base. And that’s more than enough for the true fans; if the energy he puts out in his mixes were marketed on a larger scale there might not be enough for us when we truly needed it. Nah, who am I kidding, Ed solo will always bring enough.
