DJ OF THE WEEK 7.12.10: RON TRENT

You simply can’t talk about House Music and Chicago and not talk about Ron Trent, one of the pioneers of the Chicago House sound.

Born in the East coast, North Hampton, Massachusetts to be exact, he moved to Chicago at an early age, and it was there, growing up as the son of a DJ that he caught the DJ bug. By his teens, Trent was spinning local parties and making a name for himself, and already setting his sights on the future.

It didn’t take long for the young DJ turned producer to score his first release and hit, with the House classic, “Altered States”. This one track not only helped rocket the then 19 year old newbie to House music stardom, it helped the still young genre itself reach new heights.

Since, then Ron Trent has been spreading the House gospel to all corners of the globe, and has seen it go from the underground clubs of New York and Chicago to the world wide phenomenon that it is. Ron Trent himself has gone on to become a much sought after DJ and producer with countless hits and remixes under his belt. He also founded his own record label along with producer and singer, Chez Damier, called Prescription Records, which has introduced the world to the likes of names such as Peven Everett, Glen Underground, Anthony Nicholson, Rob Mello, and more.

These days, you can catch Ron Trent spinning all over the world, but one sure fire spot to catch him in action is in the city where it all started for him, Chicago. His weekly Sunday gig, Love Hangover, held at The Shrine attracts deep House heads from all over to hear him spin everything from the classics to the hottest jams of the day. When you want to catch some House music history, make sure to go pay homage to one of it’s founding fathers, and stop by the Shrine. Make sure to take an extra pair of shoes, people have been known to dance their soles off.
