WEEKENDMIX 12.7.12: SIMPLY THE BEST
Usually, in our WeekendMix feature, we try to keep it to up and coming DJs, those spinning in their basements, their bedrooms, and so on, vying for their spot inside the big DJ booths of the biggest clubs. But, WeekendMix is about the mix, not the DJ per se, nor the event or circumstances under which it was made, just the mix. And sometimes, you just can’t help but press play on a mix from one of the greats and just lose your mind, and your body of course. Which is why this weekend we bring you three mixes from three of the best DJs to ever do it: Frankie Knuckles, A Guy Called Gerald, and Derrick May!
Whether you wanted a history lesson or not, you’re going to get it. The first two mixes are older than most new fans of this here new EDM craze we’re knee deep in right now. The first, from Frankie Knuckles dates back to 1992! Damn, this is not long after a certain someone writing this piece first discovered House! The second mix takes us to the 90’s, where Jungle and Drum and Bass reigned supreme. A Guy Called Gerald is the wizard behind the wheels of steel and this mix will blow you away! Lastly, we have a much more recent mix by the one and only Derrick May. Obviously, this mix will take you there, for Mr. May is in a class by himself. Fact is, without these three legends right here, there would be no EDM. So, sit back and learn. It’s going to be fun!!
