DJ OF THE WEEK 8.29.11: CARL COX

It used to be that when my birthday came around, I’d treat myself to something nice, maybe expensive. When I was younger, it was simply a nite of drinks and hanging with the boys, and of course the girls. Later on maybe a new toy, or a road trip. These days, with a family, a job, and running a website, I’m good with just a good mix.

Of course, it can’t be just any mix. I need a special kind of vibe, a set that brings it with a good selection of club bangers and new, soon to be classics, and plenty of familiar memory evoking grooves from deep in the crates. A DJ that always takes me there and I just needed on this my birthday week, is Carl Cox.

Carl Cox is rightfully heralded as one of the best DJs in the world; he is an ambassador of Electronic music, an amazing figure who even after more than 25 years in the game, continues to represent the culture non-stop with an unrelenting tour schedule and constantly churning out top notch productions.

It was easy selecting Carl Cox as a DJOTW back in April of 2010, and when I heard the following mix, well, I couldn’t help but make this the second time Cox has been selected as DJOTW. A small honor for him, perhaps, but I have my birthday mix, and the honor really is all mine.
