DJ OF THE WEEK 9.12.11: OSUNLADE

Some of you may have noticed, we didn’t post a Weekend mix this past weekend. I’ve got to be honest with you and tell you, the inspiration wasn’t there.

This past weekend, on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I took a step back to reflect on that awful day and the time that has passed, and it seems I simply never stepped forward again.

To say I was being reflective only explains part of it. For the first time in many years, I felt the sadness of that day very deeply, and simply couldn’t bring myself to listen to music, let alone write about it.

I thought about posting a nice 3 mix set from Osunlade, the very DJ we featured last year for this very weekend, maybe begin a tradition where one of his mixes would be featured every year at this time. But something stopped me.

Sometimes, you need to shut the music off, but you always have to turn it back on again. So, instead, I opted to remain silent for the weekend out of respect and instead, feature Osulande and those same mixes for DJOTW.

Osunlade is undoubtedly worthy of this, his second DJOTW selection, that is without question, but he also brings a heavy dose of spirituality to his sets, and if any DJ is appropriate, if any DJ can help lift our spirits at a time like this, we feel it is him.

We sincerely hope that the positivity and soulful vibes they contain will, as we prepare to go back to our daily lives on Monday, help pick up our heads and hearts and lift the spirits of our readers, and ours as well.
