WEEKENDMIX 9.21.12: THAT MEXICAN DJ

If you’ve been taking notes, you know that our WeekendMix feature is dedicated to the bedroom and basement DJs practicing hours on end to be the best DJs they can be. We even feature people who don’t consider themselves DJs! The hobbyists who love and respect the craft enough to put out quality work. Of course, our favorites are the underground DJs on the verge of superstardom, like this weekends DJ, Manuel Gutierrez aka That Mexican DJ.

I don’t know how they party in Newfoundland, Canada but if what Gutierrez does is any indication, he must’ve brought some heat up North from his native Cancun, Mexico, where he was born and raised. Yes, Gutierrez was born and raised in Cancun, Mexico one of the world’s top party destinations.

These days, Gutierrez makes his home in Newfoundland, where I imagine his Mexican heritage really stands out. Of course, what stands out the most is his work as a DJ. Gutierrez isn’t afraid to play to the deep underground heads, the EDM fanboys or the ladies looking for something with a lil more mass appeal. Whoever he plays to however, he weaves it all together quite nicely and brings it with expertly mixed sets full of plenty of big room House, Electro, Techno, Nu Disco grooves, and much more.

Gutierrez is slowly but surely making a name for himself in Newfoundland. He’s played alongside many of the big local DJs such as Mike the Tailor, Jimbones, Billz MD, Dr Drake, among others. But he’s also played alongside and impressed many world famous DJs such as Wolfgang Gartner, Hatiras, Bad Boy Bill, DJ Dan, Steve Aoki, and many others. A burgeoning producer as well, Gutierrez has his sights set on rocking the whole world, and you can bet that will include a few stops in Cancun.
